So this weekend has raised so many questions as to what is appropriate anymore. I'm just not sure what people are thinking or how things have gotten to where they are now.
1) Skimpy attire: So while on a trip to a local outdoor shopping mall with Banana and her mom, we were in the cosmetics department at Nordstrom. While Banana was picking out some lipstick mom and I were just chatting away until I stopped mid-sentance in awe of the booty shorts another customer was wearing. Now yes, she did have the body and looks to pull it off, but still when did it become acceptable to call shorts where your butt cheeks are hanging out and a tank top suitable attire to go out and go shopping? Now this isn't fueled by the fact that I'm gay. I'm sure other men found it great to look at and that is clearly what she wanted but she may as well have been naked for what little she was wearing. Guess I think that maybe a little modesty goes further than just putting everything out there.
2) Age appropriate attire: This kind of goes along with the last point. Same place, lil while later, walking towards the car. The three of us spot a woman walking towards us with her husband. Now the first thing said, by mom, was "Can't some people dress more age appropriate?" So this woman was most likely in her mid to late 40's and was wearing an incredibly short mini-skirt and a top that just barely came to the waist of the skirt due to the extra weight she appeared to be carrying. It was the type of outfit you would be able to get at Forever 21 or a place like that. Now not only was this not age appropriate, it wasn't a good outfit for her body type. It was stretching and bulging in awkward places and all around looked like a train wreck. Being a bit judgmental here? Yes I am and I don't really care.
3) Pajamas as regular wear: Same place waiting outside of the Starbucks (since the line was just way to long and filled with tweens and mom and I were not going to wait just to get a pumpkin spice latte). In the span of 5 minutes I noticed about 4-5 people walk by in, not sweat pants, but what were obviously pajama bottoms and grubby t-shirts. Now my mother never let us leave the house in sweat pants if we were going any place other than something that warranted them. Basically this is the opposite of what was going on in case number 1 but it just looked incredibly bad. How lazy do you have to be to just not take care of yourself like that?
Now I'm not the eppitome of fashion and typically need someone else's help/opinion to dress myself, but I know what should be worn and where. It was just some very distinct wardrobe choices that were just very poor.
It's amazing to me how many people wear what are clearly pajamas now LOL
